The Program Blackburn is fully compliant with CC2001, the computer science curriculum recommended by the ACM/IEEE. This curriculum, an international standard, ensures that alumni will be fully prepared for graduate work or professional positions in computing. Our core curriculum builds a solid foundation in software, architecture and networks, engages students in creative problem-solving and explicitly addresses emerging technologies. We require cooperative software engineering of all majors, present opportunities for advanced study in several areas of computing and guarantee every student an individualized capstone research and development experience in senior seminar. Advanced coursework is available in artificial intelligence, database systems, information visualization and human-computer interaction, networks and operations research. Internships are also available both locally and at a distance. Special Features Some well qualified students assist department faculty in lab sessions, provide tutorial assistance to other students and manage the research lab. Others work in technology services to provide networking, operating systems and internet services for the campus.
Students can also choose to major in computer science and/or math while moving through Blackburn’s pre-engineering program. Each senior researches an area of computer science and then designs, develops and documents a project related to that area. The results are presented to the department at a colloquium held in the month of April. |
