Academics - History

History

Courses are offered in a full range of European and American history, from ancient history to modern America. Our program stresses original historical thinking. You will learn to analyze primary and secondary sources, to reach your own conclusions about the readings and to document conclusions with historical evidence.

A history major has traditionally served as preparation for a career in college or high school teaching or for a career in law. The major also provides a good background for further study in business or journalism or for careers in management, technical writing and museum and archival administration.

Special Features

All majors complete the two-semester History Seminar in which students learn to conduct original field research based on materials available in regional libraries and historical archives.
