Blackburn Men's Soccer has Favorable 2008 Schedule The
Blackburn College men’s soccer team will have a favorable schedule
to highlight the 2008 season as the Beavers look to move into the
upper division of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.The Beavers will have eight home games to mark a slate that features an intriguing exhibition game at the University of Illinois - Springfield at 7 p.m. on August 27. That game features the return of second-year Blackburn head coach Aydin Gonulsen to the site of his greatest achievements in a legendary collegiate coaching career. Gonulsen came out of retirement to take over the Blackburn program after spending a quarter-century as head men’s soccer coach at UIS. Blackburn Football Celebrates 20 Years in 2008 The
Blackburn College football program will mark 20 years of varsity
play in the 2008 season, as the gridiron Beavers first took the
field in varsity action in September of 1989.The reintroduction of football at Blackburn has produced a lot of individual highlights and even more memories, and a look at the first twenty years offers a good opportunity to study the development of a collegiate football program at a small school such as Blackburn. Football at Blackburn dates to 1895, with games against other colleges as well as local high school and amateur teams. Games were played intermittently until 1927, and although the football team sorely lacked funding–which meant at some seasons saw no games at all–the spirit of the players... Full Story |
