Alpha Psi Omega Alpha Psi Omega is an honor society for the theater program. Membership is exclusive to students that have been elected for their involvement in technical theater, dance, choreography, acting, directing, stage management, and production.
BADD Beavers Against Destructive Decisions is a club to raise awareness on the consequences of actions and harmful activities. Some activities for BADD include the Every 15 minutes program done in conjunction with the local high schools and The Road to Reality simulated car crash program. If you are looking for more information or would like to be a part of BADD, check out the Student Life Conference Room for meetings. It's good to be BADD!
BCF (Blackburn Christian Fellowship) BCF conducts two weekly Bible studies to deepen and engage the faith of students. We seek to draw Christians closer together through discussion, activities, prayer, and service. We are a nondenominational group and invite all students to attend. Beaver Paws for a Cause Beaver Paws helps out an organization each semester through fund raising, service, and relationship building in the community. We want to bridge the gap between campus and the community by helping out when and where we can. Come join us, we can always use more paws for a cause!
Bibliophiliacs We bring together readers of all genres of literature that like, love, or have a passion for books. We meet frequently to discuss books and authors, and to choose our next selection. We would welcome you to join us!
BOSA The Board of Student Activities plans and coordinates most campus social events. The group consists entirely of students who have the responsibility of budgeting, planning, and promoting activities.
Burnian Newspaper A monthly campus publication intended to inform the Blackburn community of news which pertain to them and voice student, faculty, and staff concerns. Recently revived, it is in the process of journalistic growth. The staff consists of writers, editors, photographers, and a campus employed communications technician. Checkmate If you like to play board games, then we are the group for you! We meet weekly on Friday nights to discuss club business and play games. We are also always looking to learn new games, so stop by and make your move with Checkmate!
Cheerleading The Blackburn College cheerleading team is responsible for performing a combination of dance and stunt routines on the sidelines during home games. They also participate in various fundraising activities. Try-outs are held both in the fall and spring semesters.
Common Ground The Blackburn Common Ground is a gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered as well as heterosexual student organization. BCG aims to foster a safe and supportive environment for all members of the Blackburn Community regardless of sexual orientation. Students, faculty, staff, and the Carlinville community are welcome to participate in helping BCG create an atmosphere of equality and acceptance.
Cultural Expressions This is the multicultural awareness group on campus and it meets twice a month. They organize diversity discussions and forums and sponsor an annual two-day ethnic festival in the spring semester. Members fundraise to support their group and organize off-campus trips for students.
Dance Club We love to dance! Dance club is a group of people, many of whom are enrolled in dance classes, that like to learn, teach, and entertain through dance. We meet weekly to practice our steps and welcome anyone interested to join us!
Economic Investment Experience Club This club provides interested students, faculty, and staff with the opportunity to manage a portfolio of financial assets on behalf of the College with the primary goal of learning how to exercise responsible ownership through active participation in the research and evaluation of corporate performance and prospects.
The Element We are a new group on campus with a worship service geared towards college students. The Element has a live band playing contemporary music, relevant message, and a time for food and fellowship. We encourage students to participate in the worship service by joining the Praise Band, Drama Team, or the Leadership Core. For current news, visit our website http://blackburnministries.org/element.
Film Club Film club brings together Blackburn community members with an interest in watching movies and films! We meet weekly in the Student Life Conference Room and would welcome any new members!
Habitat for Humanity Blackburn College has its own chapter of Habitat for Humanity, which is affiliated with the Springfield chapter. Students volunteer their time to build homes in Springfield and surrounding areas. Anyone willing to help is welcomed to participate.
House Councils Comprised of resident students, each dorm has a committee that plans dorm events and discusses other issues that affect residents of their dorm. Everyone living in a particular dorm is welcomed to participate in House Council for that dorm. The executive board of the House Council is determined through resident ballots.
Knotty Knitters Have an interest in knitting? Come join the Knotty Knitters! We offer a creative outlet for people with an interest in needle point activities and knitting, such as making baby blankets for Project Linus, Bears for Mother Bear, and preemie hats. Look for us in Stoddard parlor!
Madrigals A group of students and faculty organize and perform in Blackburn’s annual Madrigal dinner. These students and faculty members dress in medieval fashion and entertain as singers, musicians, and actors. Students also participate as wenches, dancers, and a jester.
Men of Dignity The Men of Dignity welcome any men on campus to learn, lead, and serve with dignity. These men strive to be mentors, role models, and big brothers, while hosting educational and social activities for the campus, such as a youth sports day, working at the homeless shelter in Hillsboro, and tutoring. Come join us!
Newman Club Newman Club is an organization designed to enrich the lives of Blackburn Students by providing fellowship with believers, spiritual growth and exploration, and a deep commitment to serving the community through service projects and outreach programs. Pep Club Pep club boosts the school spirit at Blackburn! We can be seen at Homecoming and building floats for the Carlinville Halloween Parade to name a few activities, as well as hosting carnival games for Siblings Weekend. Go Beavers!
P.O.O.L. The P.O.O.L. club welcomes anyone with knowledge or an interest in playing pool! We offer individuals with a common interest a place to hang out and play or brush up your skills. Come visit us at the pool table in DCC!
Pre-Health Professions Society PHP is a club primarily for individuals seeking a health related career. PHP hosts speakers, takes off campus trips, and volunteers in the community. Meetings are held in Olin-Mahan, come check us out!
Psychology Club Psychology club is open to everyone, but highlights the interests of those interested in psychology research, assessment, and service. The members choose the discussion topics at each meeting, which might include anything from personality tests to graduate schools.
Sister Circle Everyone in the Blackburn community is welcome to attend Sister Circle; however, the focus of the organization is primarily on uniting and empowering the women on campus. We offer social and educational programs, such as an interactive belly dancing program or co-sponsoring activities for National coming Out Day.
Spanish Club Spanish club strives to enrich the campus community with the Spanish language and culture of countries where Spanish is the primary spoken language by offering fun activities, such as Dia de los Muertos fiesta or the trip to St. Louis for the Festival of Spain.
Student Senate There is an annual election for students interested in running for student government. The student participants, including one representative from each residence hall, meet to discuss issues important to the student body. Senate members are also represented on most college committees, including Planning, Budget, Student Life, Admissions, Arts and Issues, Athletics Committee, and Curriculum and Academic Policy.
Track Club Track club provides a way to get students together that like to run or race competitively. The goal of track club is to unify students with a common interest, to provide a friendly environment to run, and to bring together students that want to live a healthy lifestyle and be part of a team.
Volunteer Club The volunteer club promotes one time volunteer opportunities in the Carlinville and surround communities. Additionally, members plan long distance trips to be completed over breaks or extended weekends, such as the Fall Break Trip to Galveston Texas to do hurricane relief work.
