Church Relations at Blackburn College
Affiliated with the
Presbyterian Church
(USA), Blackburn College relates to the church through its
covenant agreements with local and regional church bodies. These
connections include:
The College promotes and supports development of its students
through many facets of campus life:
- Philosophy and religion coursework is required of all
students seeking a degree;
- Christian student organizations on campus incorporate Bible
study, worship, and service to others;
- A cooperative relationship exists with the Carlinville
clergy organization providing ways for students to connect with
their churches of choice;
- Opportunities are provided for ecumenical worship on the
campus.
Blackburn is an active participant in the
Association of
Presbyterian Colleges and Universities (APCU). Several members
of Blackburn’s staff, including President Mim Pride, have active
roles at all levels of church polity. The president and other
members of the staff and faculty fill pulpits as guest speakers or
provide a variety of worship music in area churches.
Blackburn provides for the presence of the Presbyterian Church
(USA) on the campus in several ways:
- An ordained PC(USA) minister serves on the College’s Board
of Trustees.
- Blackburn has served as a host site for Presbytery of Great
Rivers Assembly meetings.
- Blackburn makes its facilities available during the summer
for the Synod of Lincoln Trails Youth Triennium.
- Blackburn provides conference facilities for church-related
workshops.
