Student Life - "It's What You Make of It"
What You Should Not Bring
Students take great pride in their “home away from home” and often wish to personalize their space with all of the comforts of home. We all want students rooms to be comfortable and safe. For safety reasons, cooking in the individual residence hall rooms is prohibited. As a result, cooking appliances such as microwaves, refrigerators over 3.1 cubic feet, hot plates, grills, electric frying pans, toaster/ toaster ovens, etc. are not allowed in residence hall. Each residence hall has a microwave in a common area for students use.
The following items are also banned from residence halls for fire/ safety reasons: candles, incense, floor halogen lamps, other combustibles, flammable liquids, any space heating equipment (electric, propane, or kerosene) and air conditioners. This list is not exhaustive. Please contact the residence life office with any specific questions.
The following items are approved for use in residence halls: hair dryers, curling irons, hot rollers, coffee makers, pop corn poppers, rice cookers, hot pots, heavy duty type extension cords and George Foreman grills. We encourage you to consult with your roommate to keep appliances to a minimum. Again, this list is not exhaustive. Please contact the residence life office with any specific questions.
