Habitat for Humanity

Blackburn College Campus Chapter of Habitat for Humanity
Established 2001
Habitat for Humanity is an organization that builds houses in
partnership with the less fortunate. And while it is best known
for its hammer swinging activities, Habitat realizes that more
than construction alone is necessary to eliminate substandard
housing. We all must be a part of the solution - schools,
businesses, churches, other non-profit organizations, local
communities and government entities.
Based from the larger corporate organization known as Habitat
for Humanity International there are hundreds of affiliates in
states and countries across the world. These affiliates can also
sponsor campus chapters, like Blackburn. Our campus chapter is
an unincorporated, student-run organization that performs three
main functions: building and rehabilitating houses in
partnership with Habitat affiliates, educating our college
campus, and promoting the overall volunteer experience.
The Blackburn College Campus Chapter of Habitat for Humanity
was established in 2001, and has been growing ever since. We
work in partnership with the Sangamon County Habitat for
Humanity located in Springfield, IL. Currently in our sixth
year, we are proud to have accomplished twelve house builds,
raised over $2,000 in 2005 for Habitat homes and orchestrated
many other educational activities. For more information on how
you can join Blackburn College’s Campus Chapter of Habitat for
