Academics - Physical Education and Sport Management

Physical Education

The physical education curriculum provides a broad education in the areas of the discipline–teaching K-12, coaching individual and team sports, administration of athletic programs and management of sports programs in non-school agencies. At Blackburn, physical education and sport management majors are offered a wealth of coursework preparing them for positions in many fields related to the discipline.

Special Features

The physical education major at Blackburn offers an innovative two-track system. The education track allows you to pursue a major in the traditional teaching field. Students wanting to teach are, upon successful completion of all requirements, certified as K-12 teachers. The sport management major provides an opportunity for you to go into careers in business fitness programs, recreation centers, health spas and the business world of sports. The department also offers three minors for those whose major interests are in another discipline.

Testimonial

“I came to Blackburn because it was the best fit for me financially, and I could still play softball and volleyball. The size of the school is very appealing. As a Education major, I’m getting experience through my campus job as a teacher’s assistant.”
