Accreditation, Membership and Legal Notices
Blackburn College is accredited by the North Central
Association of Colleges and Schools. Its teacher education
program is recognized by the Illinois State Teacher
Certification Board and the State Superintendent of Education.
The American Association of University Women grants Blackburn
women graduates membership.
In addition to its representative memberships in various
organizations that benefit specific administrative and academic
departments, the College holds institutional memberships in the
Council of Independent Colleges, the College Entrance
Examination Board, the Federation of Illinois Colleges and
Universities, the Associated Colleges of Illinois, the
Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges,
and the Association of Presbyterian Colleges and Universities. |

Nondiscrimination Policy: Blackburn College does not

The Family Rights and Privacy Act of 1974: Under the terms
of this act, students may request access to their college records.
The College must grant such access in not more than 45 days after
receiving the request. Students should refer to the Blackburn
College Student Handbook (B-Book) for the complete policy. A copy of
the Family Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 is on file in the library
for examination.
Title IX: Blackburn College is in full agreement and
compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 as
amended June 4, 1975, which provides that “No person shall on the
basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the
benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education
program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance,” with
certain exceptions which are mentioned in Title IX. Areas covered by
Title IX include recruitment and admission, education programs,
housing, counseling, financial assistance, employment, health and
insurance benefits and services and athletics. Inquiries concerning
Title IX may be referred to Miriam R. Pride, President, designated
compliance person of Blackburn College, or the Director of the
Office for Civil Rights, Department of Education, Washington, D.C.
20201.
Americans with Disabilities Act: Blackburn College
complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 and
with the section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 regarding its
students with disabilities. It is the policy of Blackburn College
that no person shall be denied admissions to the College and that no
student shall be denied access to or participation in the services,
programs, and activities of the College solely on the basis of
her/his disability. Students should refer to the Blackburn College
