John Malin
Dean of Enrollment Management
John graduated from Blackburn in
1981 and began working in Admissions one year later. He
enjoys Blackburn’s sense of community and its unique model
of education that links rigorous academics with hands-on
work experience. As a student in the work program, John
worked his freshman year as an electrician in the physical
plant before spending the next three years in athletics. He
learned a great deal about multi-tasking, staying organized
and managing his time. He loves meeting new students and
parents and says, “I very much enjoy working with students
and helping them make, for many, the biggest and most
important decision of their life, and then seeing those
students on campus excelling in a variety of activities.”
John’s 25 years in Admissions work have taken him to all
areas of the United States and to nine foreign countries. If
you are currently a prospective student from the Illinois
counties of Macoupin, Jersey, Greene, Pike, Scott or
Calhoun, chances are John will be your primary contact for
information regarding Blackburn. John offers the following
advice to students that are in the college selection
process. “Identify colleges and universities that possess
the academic and co-curricular programs that your are
looking for and then schedule a time to visit those at the
top of your list. The college visit is the most important
step in selecting the right college to meet your life goals
and ambitions. Be sure to ask questions about all of the
issues that are important to you.” Contact Information:
