Scholarship auction breaks records
|
|
Blackburn's Macoupin County Student Scholarship Committee exceeded all previous auction events with its 2007 auction held in late February in Carlinville. The auction benefits students who attend Blackburn College from Macoupin County. The Carlinville Elks’ Lodge was filled to capacity with people who spent nearly $28,000. More than 160 items were donated for the event, with top dollars being paid for two Florida condos and a Cardinals box that seats 14. The scholarship fund and annual fundraiser was conceived in 1991 by the late Judge John Russell '40 and the late Norma (Boente) Dunn '47. The fund has distributed nearly $182,000 to 43 students since its first distribution. Over the years, the committee has raised more than $500,000. [Full Story]
