Professor Bob Huber has been a full-time faculty member
and the
Pegram Chair in Fine Art since the fall of 2003.
Professor Huber has
an extensive history as a professional production
potter. He received
his BFA in 1988 from MSU (then SMSU) and his MFA in
studio art,
primarily sculpture, from Fontbonne University in 2003.
"My history as a potter complements the mission of
Blackburn College
very well. Potters often say that 10% of their time is
spent on the
wheel. The other 90% is spent working on peripheral
tasks leading up
to the wheel such as making clay, firing and repairing
kilns, glazing
pots, and much more.
At Blackburn our students learn the value of work while
developing
skills in any number of disciplines. There are very few
short cuts in
the visual arts. And for that reason earning a BA in art
is a labor
intensive but highly rewarding journey. In the art
department we
stress quality and research first regardless of whether
a student is
building a frame, executing a drawing, constructing a
sculpture or
painting a gallery wall."
Our objectives are quite clear.
-To understand intimately the mediums and materials that
we work with
-To apply the highest level of quality to the artwork
that we produce
-To understand the historical correlations of our work
-To articulate our ideas and criticisms clearly
-To understand and respect the artistic lineage from
which we have come
-To work and build art in a contemporary context,
knowledgeable of
our past and deeply aware of the present. |
