The Art Department
 Summer Work

Professor Huber, Art department Chair, and
Stacy Shelton work
together to unload 3, 850 lbs of clay from a recent shipment.
Undaunted by the summer heat, sophomore Stacy
Mae Shelton built and
fired a wood-fired pottery kiln behind the Renner Art building
using
bricks salvaged from past kilns. Shelton's kiln was a monumental
success. It reached cone 9, approximately 2300 degrees
Fahrenheit, in
12 hours.
Shelton was the only worker in the art department during the
summer.
Although the daily temperatures were stifling Shelton maintained
a
rigorous pace managing both Renner and the VAC. Shelton is
scheduled
to take her second pottery class this fall. She has already built
and
fired kilns and made clay and glazes, amongst numerous other
tasks
related to ceramic sculpture and pottery.
