Roger VanDeZande Roger VanDeZande enters his third season at the helm of the Blackburn College football program this fall. In 2007, VanDeZande’s Blackburn team smashed at least thirty-eight school records while finishing the season on a three-game winning streak. VanDeZande came to Blackburn from Lewis & Clark College. Previously, he was the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. From 1998-2001, VanDeZande was the defensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator, and strength coach at Southern Oregon University, where his Raider defense led the Northwest in scoring defense three times and was regularly among NAIA leaders in rush defense, total defense, and interceptions. The 2001 Raider team finished the season ranked fifth in the nation after going 9-2, setting a school record for wins. The Raiders had the top defense in the Northwest at any level of college football. VanDeZande was named NAIA Assistant Coach of the Year in 2001. During VanDeZande’s time as SOU defensive coordinator, he coached seven NAIA defensive All-Americans, three Academic All-Americans, and four Verizon Academic All-District Award winners. He also coached 48 NAIA All-Americans in six sports as strength coach at SOU. In all, SOU racked up an impressive 30-18 record in VanDeZande’s years there. |

Nate Cochran Nate Cochran enters his third season as assistant head football coach and offensive coordinator at Blackburn College. In 2007, Cochran’s offense shattered numerous rushing, scoring, and total offense records while racking up 136 points over their last three games. Several of the top offensive players in school history were developed under his tutelage. Cochran spent part of the summer of 2007 as an intern with the Pittsburgh Steelers as part of the NFL Minority Internship Program. He has also been published in recent editions of American Football Monthly and has been a part of the production of a series of instructional videos by AFM. Cochran also participated in the prestigious NCAA Men’s Football Coaching Academy in Indianapolis in 2006. Cochran came to Blackburn after two seasons at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where he coached the Pioneer running backs in 2005 and the defensive line in 2004. Playing in one of the toughest Division III conferences in the nation, UW-Platteville defeated three teams ranked in the top 25 during Cochran’s two years there. |
