Mike Williams

Mike Williams enters his fourth season as head coach of Blackburn’s Women’s basketball team with one goal in mind: Winning the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) championship.

In just three years, Coach Williams has returned the Beavers to a conference championship contender. The 2009-2010 campaign marked the Beavers first overall winning season in seven years, finishing with a 15-12 record. All three of his teams at Blackburn have qualified for the conference tournament.

Williams plans to continue building on last season’s accomplishments where the team finished second in the conference and was one victory away from winning the SLIAC tournament. With another outstanding recruiting class coming in, the Beavers will have greater depth in all positions. Williams expects this to translate into a stronger inside game and the team being better defensively.

With an overall SLIAC record of 31-17, Williams has the Beavers poised for their first conference championship since 1994.
In addition to his on the court expectation of being crowned SLIAC champions, Williams also has high expectations of his players off the court. “I want the team to have a cumulative 3.0 grade point average,” he said. He noted that most of last year’s core players maintained this mark along with their impressive performance on the court.

Williams has amassed some impressive individual accomplishments during his time in Carlinville, as he has earned league Coach of the Year honors in two of his first three seasons, including his first year and again last season. Prior to arriving at Blackburn, Williams garnered two winning seasons as the head coach of the girl’s basketball team at Zion-Benton Township High School in Zion, IL. In 2006-2007, he led the team to a school-record 24 wins and their first Illinois High School Association Class AA regional title in 14 years. In 2002-2003, he served as an assistant coach at Chicago State University, in Chicago Illinois.

Williams received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication in 1991 from North Park College in Chicago, Illinois, and in 2005 he received his Master of Arts degree in Education, with a specialization in Special Education from Phoenix University. He is a member of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association, the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and the Black Coaches Association.

Williams is married to wife Tawanda, and has two daughters, Latoya (23), and Gabriel (15). The Williams family reside in Brighton, Illinois.
Assistant Coach
Jen Windmiller
Jen Windmiller

Jen Windmiller is beginning her second year as an assistant basketball coach for the women’s program.

Windmiller, a 2008 alumna of Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, brings a great balance of coaching experience to Blackburn. While at Augustana, the Biology and Pre-Med major participated for two years as a player and two years as a student assistant coach. Following her years as a student, she was hired to be the junior varsity coach and an assistant to the varsity team, a role she will duplicate at Blackburn.

During the past two summers, Windmiller served as the head coach of the Quad City Jaguars, an AAU team based out of the quad cities area. She also has spent three seasons working camps at Augustana and also worked the head coach at DePaul University, Doug Bruno’s camp in the summer of 2009. Prior to Augustana, Windmiller is a 2004 graduate of Quincy High School in Quincy, Illinois. While at Quincy, she was named the captain of the team her senior year, and also was named to the Western Big Six Conference all-academic team.

Windmiller is currently working on her master’s degree from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama.

“Jen is going to be a great addition to our staff at Blackburn because of the knowledge of the game and her recruiting ability that will help make us a lot better team. I am very excited to begin working with her,” said Mike Williams.
