Beavers Finish in the Rain!

Both Blackburn College women’s and men’s soccer seasons came to an abrupt end after All-Conference Honorable mention Tara Allen scored the Lady Beavers only goal in the second half of play against Westminster College. Due to the rain and lightning the game was called off and the men’s game was not played.

The women’s team won two more games than last year’s campaign. Despite a number of key injuries; Delena Woofley (season ending knee injury), Krys Alexander the Beavers’ top goal scorer (ankle), Charis Hobbs (ankle stress fracture), Brianna Rossman (eye injury), Jen Whithers (concussions), and other obstacles the women had a very good season. Head Coach Aydin Gonulsen will be missing seniors who were the heart and soul of the team this year. They are captains Ericka Boeckman, Sara Hermanson, who was also team MVP, and Nikki Meredith, Laura Watts, Jean Cruse, and Defensive MVP Mari Crothers.

This year’s offensive MVP was freshmen Tara Allen.

“Tara was more than deserving of this award, her work rate throughout the season was incredible,” said Gonulsen. “After Krys (Alexander) got hurt she was our only offensive threat,” added Gonulsen.

Gonulsen would like to add, “playing on the soccer stadium was a great experience for both men and women” and added “I would like to thank the athletic staff and the trainers for their hard work, the physical plant for keeping the practice fields and the stadium in top condition and the administration for providing us with the best gear and the equipment.
