Basketball Finale

The Blackburn basketball teams swept a SLIAC doubleheader at MacMurray
Tuesday evening as both teams concluded the regular season with impressive
performances.

The Blackburn women continued their hot streak with a 68-53 win over
MacMurray to sweep the season series. It was Blackburn's seventh win in
their last nine games heading into Friday night's SLIAC tournament game at
Maryville.

Junior forward Meghan Polston led all scorers with 17 points, while
sophomore guard Lauren Woelfel continued her stellar play with 15 points,
including four three-pointers. Sophomore forward Jessy Hewitt pulled down a
game-high 10 rebounds for Blackburn, which improved to 9-7 in the conference
and 11-14 overall.

In the men's game, Blackburn jumped out to a fast start, watched their lead
evaporate, and roared back to take control once again in an 82-63 victory.
The game was tied at 33-33 at halftime, but Blackburn outscored MacMurray
49-30 in the second half on the way to the easy win.

Junior forward Tommy Baro had a career game with 21 points and 12 rebounds,
while senior forward Grant Lamsargis, playing his final game in a Blackburn
uniform, finished with 14 points and 10 boards. Another senior, guard Bryan
Waters, recorded 15 points in his final game, while senior forward Ryan
Smith pulled down eight boards in his final appearance.

The Beavers out-rebounded MacMurray 44-35 and held the Highlanders to just
37.5 percent shooting as Blackburn closed their season with their second win
in three games.
