Welcome
The Department of Freshman Inquiry is responsible for two classes: AC 100, Freshman Seminar; and AC 101, College Study Skills. All first time freshmen take the Seminar. It is limited to 15 students, an instructor, and a student mentor and provides a forum for discussion of areas important to Blackburn: academic and work program planning; Blackburn history and traditions; and student life programming are among the topics typically discussed.
College Study Skills is a one-credit elective available to any student interested in improving a variety of study skills and attitudes; it covers such topics as time management, note-taking, reading, exam-taking, and motivation. In addition to credit classes, Freshman
Inquiry sponsors the Writer's Block, a writing center that is open to all Blackburn students at no charge; trained writing assistants are available during publicized open hours to help with brainstorming ideas for a paper, research, revising drafts, and editing. Tutors and Supplemental Instruction groups are also available in some freshman/sophomore courses; your instructors will notify you if tutoring is available.
