Originally from Dallas City, Illinois, Elysia attended Monmouth College where she earned a B.A. in physical education and received a k-12 teaching certificate in May of 2004. While at Monmouth she was the student director for intramurals and was an assistant volleyball coach at Yorkwood High School. Elysia earned a M.S. in Sport Management from Western Illinois University in 2006 and served as a graduate teaching assistant in the Kinesiology department. While in graduate school she completed an internship at Nauvoo-Colusa High School in Nauvoo, Illinois where she worked as an assistant athletic director. Elysia was the head volleyball coach at Nauvoo-Colusa in 2004 and 2005.
