Current Research and Teaching Interests
  • Exploration of politics through literature with focus on non-Western, "third world" politics and short stories.
  • Study of political ideals and the utopian novel in Western political philosophy.
  • Examination of relationships between law and politics through the concepts of liberty, equality, harm, crime, and punishment.

Dr. Meredith teaches a wide range of classes in American Government and social research methods. Courses taught include:

  • American National Government

  • Congress and the Presidency, Public Administration

  • Politics of Advanced Nations

  • Methods of Political and Policy Research

  • Public Policy Analysis

Dr. Meredith’s primary research interests center around leadership theory and practice and apply research on emotional intelligence to link academic learning with leadership experience in the student managed Work Program and other co-curricular activities.

Leadership Skills Workshops: consist of a set of 6 mini-courses designed to help students in campus leadership positions develop their leadership skills and emotional competencies. These workshops draw on both classroom instruction and leadership experience. They include the following:

  • Leadership Communications I and II – develops skills in interpersonal communications and giving and receiving feedback.

  • Teambuilding I and II – develops skills at leading group development and group problem solving and delegation.

  • Conflict Resolution I and II – develops basic skills at win-win negotiation and mediation

  • Two additional classes taught in the Physical Education Department combine outdoor experience with leadership development.

  • limbing and Rappelling I and II – combines technical instruction in equipment use with outdoor teambuilding and personal development.

Dr. Meredith also teaches two advanced leadership classes: Constructive Resolution of Conflict and Theory and Practice of Leadership.
